Applelicious!

It’s apple season! Apple picking, apple products, apple ciders . . . Quebec’s apples are becoming more and more popular. Why not revive an autumn outing tradition and head to an apple shack? It’s a new gourmet concept featuring local products—and fall’s favourite fruit!

Outing Idea: the Domaine Labranche Apple Shack

Every weekend from September 22 to October 29, 2017, Domaine Labranche in Saint-Isidore, Monteregie, invites you to discover its apple shack. Already well-known for its orchard, maple sugar bush and winery, Domaine Labranche offers a skilfully crafted menu starring apples, as well as maple, and local products. An added bonus? While visiting, you can sample the domain’s wines, ciders, maple wines, and fine spirits.

Offered in four courses at lunch, and five courses at dinner, the Domaine Labranche Apple Shack menu is sure to please gourmet and simpler palates. Tempted? Consider the house charcuterie plate (available at dinner only), including maple-smoked salmon and cheese-crowned potatoes, cider-braised pork with vinegar-mustard jus, apple-cranberry BBQ sauce turkey wings, and for dessert, apple cinnamon doughnuts or traditional apple crumble topped with pecans and maple syrup.

The Domaine Labranche Apple Shack is by reservation only. Call today for your reservation—spaces are going faster than leaves turn from green to red!

Apple Shack Chez Vous? Why not!

Was your own personal apple harvest bountiful this year? Why not use all those apples to welcome friends and family, and host your own apple shack—inspired by Domaine Labranche? To help you plan your homestyle apple shack menu, we’ve gathered together some recipes and Origine Québec products that feature the mighty apple.

Recipe ideas for your own apple shack

Begin with black pudding with apples, served on a crisp green salad that brings a fresh crunch to your plate. Those who love sugar shack coleslaw will delight in a lip smacking coleslaw with green apple—only you’ll know that it’s healthy!

For the main dish, pick from one of these two favourites that feature local products, the seasonally warm and welcoming spiced rack of pork with apples or oven-baked salmon with apples and almonds for a delicious meal with exotic flair. For dessert, why not try something original and skip the apple pie and apple crumble, and instead serve apple bundles with cider caramel sauce, or transform a classic apple pie into a pie-pop! It’s a fresh take on pie that dazzles the eye as much as the mouth, by playfully putting a bite of pie on a stick. Just like at the fall fair!
