More than a 1,000 recipes were submitted. A selection committee of 12 professional mixologists prepared, taste-tested and evaluated 150 cocktails during the first round, then chose 16 semi-finalists. Fifty Inspire members whittled down the number down to 3 finalists. The public then voted for their favourite and crowned the Quebec Royal. The selection criteria included originality and ease of preparation. Also, the drinks had to be prepared in less than 5 minutes using standard kitchen equipment.

During an in-store tasting on November 17, members of the public were also able to enjoy sipping the three top contenders: the winner, of course, but also the Quebec Sour by Jonathan Cha and Maryse Fillion, and the Fleur de Lys by Marie Thore. Tasters then voted for their favourite.
